You usually hear it before you feel it. A squeal at low speed, a pulse in the pedal, a little more distance than there used to be. Any of those is worth a look.

A brake inspection here covers pads, rotors, calipers, hoses, fluid, hardware and the parking brake, plus the electronics that increasingly run alongside them. ABS, stability control, electronic parking brakes and the regenerative braking on hybrids all change how a brake job gets done, and each one needs the right procedure and the right scan tool rather than a wrench and a guess.

We will tell you what is worn, what still has life left, and what can wait. Everything gets measured and photographed, and you see it before you approve anything. Mileage alone does not decide it.

Brakes wear according to how you drive, not how far. Two identical vehicles with the same mileage can be in completely different condition depending on what those miles looked like.

Stop and go traffic is hard on pads. Towing is hard on everything. Steep terrain, spirited driving and a heavy right foot all shorten the interval. So does the opposite problem: a car that sits for long stretches can develop surface rust on the rotors and seized caliper slides without accumulating any wear at all.

Fluid gets overlooked more than any other part of the system. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and softens the pedal exactly when you need it firm. It is a cheap service that quietly protects an expensive one.

If the pedal feels different than it did six months ago, that is worth a conversation. Loaner vehicles are available, and financing is there for the larger jobs.
