Steering & Suspension Repair

A clunk over a speed bump. A steering wheel that no longer self centers. A car that wanders slightly on the highway and needs small corrections you have stopped noticing. Suspension and steering wear happens gradually enough that people adjust to it.

Our suspension and steering inspection covers shocks and struts, control arms, bushings, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, springs, sway bar links and the steering components, combining a mechanical evaluation with alignment measurements and a road test. On vehicles with adaptive damping or electronically assisted steering, diagnostic testing is part of it too.

Intended use shapes the recommendation. A Silverado that tows, a lowered Golf, an Outback that sees dirt roads and an X5 with air suspension all have different priorities and different tolerances.

Loaner vehicles are available, and qualifying repairs carry our 2-year/24,000-mile nationwide warranty. We will also road test the vehicle with you if the noise is one of those that only happens under specific conditions, because chasing an intermittent clunk from a description alone wastes everyone's time. Photographs of every worn component come with the estimate, so you can see the play in a joint rather than take our word for it.

Suspension Wear Shows In Tires

Uneven tire wear is usually the first hard evidence of a suspension problem, and it is often mistaken for an alignment issue alone.

Alignment sets the angles, but worn components let those angles move while you drive. A tired bushing or a loose ball joint means the geometry is correct in the shop and wrong on the road, which is why an alignment can be performed properly and the tire wear continues.

Other suspension and steering signs are worth taking seriously. Increased steering effort, a vehicle that feels floaty over crests, excessive body movement, a vibration that changes with road surface rather than speed, or braking that pulls slightly to one side.

On modified vehicles, suspension symptoms sometimes come from the modification rather than a failure. Ride height, wheel offset and alignment settings can all produce complaints that look like worn parts.

We evaluate the whole system before recommending anything, because replacing the first worn item you find rarely solves it on its own.
