New York State inspection should be a straightforward appointment, and here it is.

Our inspection reviews the safety related systems the state requires: brakes, tires, steering, suspension, lighting, glazing, exhaust components and structural areas, along with the emissions inspection when your vehicle is subject to it. If everything passes, you are on your way with a new sticker.

If something does not pass, you get a clear explanation of what it is, why it failed, and what it will cost, before any work begins. We also separate that from general maintenance recommendations, so you always know which items are required to pass and which are simply things we noticed and thought you should know about.

Cars, SUVs, light duty trucks, diesels, hybrids, luxury and performance vehicles all get the same process. Book online, use our after hours drop off, or wait in the lounge. If you need repairs to pass, we can usually take care of them the same visit rather than sending you away and asking you to come back.

A few New York specifics are worth knowing before you come in.

Every vehicle registered in the state needs an inspection at least once every twelve months, before the current sticker expires, and again whenever the vehicle is registered in a different name. The emissions inspection happens at the same visit for vehicles subject to it. DMV also needs a record of a passing emissions inspection within the last twelve months before you can renew your registration, so an expired sticker becomes a registration problem as well.

The item that catches people out most often is readiness. If your battery was recently disconnected, a code was cleared, or a repair was just completed, the vehicle has to finish its own onboard self tests before it can be inspected. That takes normal driving, not shop time.
