Engine repair decisions start with testing. Oil consumption, overheating, low compression, coolant intrusion, an oil pressure warning, a timing fault or a mechanical noise each require different testing to establish severity and source. Compression and leak down testing, oil pressure measurement, scan data, cooling system evaluation and physical inspection tell us whether you are looking at a targeted repair, cylinder head work, a timing job, or a full replacement.

That difference is thousands of dollars, so we establish it before quoting it.

Deciding on a major engine repair is as much about the rest of the car as it is about the engine.

A high mileage vehicle with a tired transmission, rusted brake lines and worn suspension is a different proposition than a well kept car you plan to keep for another decade, even if the engine fault is identical. So we walk through the engine repair with you honestly: what it costs, what the vehicle is worth afterward, what else is likely to need attention in the next two years, and whether the money is better spent here or somewhere else.

When significant engine repair work is happening anyway, some related items are worth doing while access is open. Water pump, seals, timing components, mounts, hoses and fluids often cost a fraction of what they would as separate jobs later.
