Mitsubishi CVT Fluid Timing
The most valuable maintenance item on most Mitsubishi vehicles is the one people are told not to bother with.
On models with a continuously variable transmission, the fluid is frequently described as lifetime fill. In practice it degrades, and it degrades faster under heat. Towing, hilly driving, stop-and-go traffic and hot weather all shorten its useful life. A CVT that has never had fluid attention at high mileage is running on something quite different from what it was designed around.
Mitsubishi CVT service requires the correct specification rather than a universal product, since these units are particular about what they run on.
Doing it on a sensible interval is inexpensive. Not doing it is how a transmission becomes the most expensive component on a car that otherwise had years left.
There is a caveat worth being honest about. On a very high mileage unit already showing symptoms, fluid service is not a repair, and we will tell you that rather than taking the money.
