When boost goes away, the turbo is the obvious suspect and often the wrong one.

Reduced power, an overboost or underboost code, smoke, unusual noise, oil consumption or inconsistent performance can come from the forced induction unit itself, or from a wastegate, an actuator, a bypass valve, an intercooler, a boost leak in the piping, a vacuum line, a sensor or the calibration. Replacing a turbocharger because of a boost code is an expensive way to find that out.

We test first. Boost and pressure testing, smoke testing for leaks, scan data analysis, actuator evaluation and mechanical inspection, enough to identify the source before major parts are ordered.

EcoBoost, Audi and VW 2.0T, Duramax, BMW straight sixes and supercharged V8s are all familiar platforms for us. Qualifying repairs carry our 2-year/24,000-mile nationwide warranty. Boost leaks in particular are common, cheap to fix and easy to mistake for a failing turbocharger, which is a good reason to test before ordering anything. If the unit does need replacing, we will tell you plainly and show you why. Financing is available on the larger jobs.

A turbocharger is only as good as everything supporting it.

Oil supply and quality matter enormously, since the bearings depend on clean oil at the right pressure and a turbo will tell you about a neglected oil change before anything else does. Cooling matters, intercooler efficiency matters, exhaust flow matters, and fueling has to keep pace with airflow. A restriction or a shortfall anywhere in that chain shows up as a boost complaint.

On modified turbo cars there is one more consideration. More airflow needs more fuel, more cooling and often more drivetrain capacity, and the calibration has to account for all of it. Adding boost to a package that cannot support it produces impressive numbers briefly.
