Pre-Purchase Inspection

A test drive and a clean listing tell you how a car looks. They do not tell you what it will cost you.

A pre-purchase inspection covers brakes, tires, steering, suspension, fluid leaks, engine operation, cooling, electrical function, warning indicators, drivetrain and the underbody, with photographs of everything we find. You get the inspection report whether or not you buy the car, and you get it in time to matter.

What we are really looking for is the gap between presentation and condition. Deferred maintenance, uneven wear that points at something structural, evidence of previous repairs, modifications that were not disclosed, and the specific weak points of that model and year.

This is especially worth doing on European, exotic, diesel, hybrid, classic and performance vehicles, where a single overlooked item can cost more than the inspection several times over. We received a CarFax award in 2025 for exactly this kind of transparency.

No inspection predicts everything. What it does is replace guesswork with information before you commit money.

The inspection findings tend to fall into three groups. Things that are normal for the age and mileage and should not worry you. Things that need doing soon and belong in your budget or your negotiation. And things that would make us walk away. Knowing which is which is most of the value.

Sellers are not always hiding something. Plenty simply do not know what condition the car is in, particularly if they bought it the same way you are about to.

The report also gives you something concrete to discuss. A documented list of needed work with photographs is a far better position than a vague sense that the price seems high.
