Nissan CVT Signs Early
A Nissan continuously variable transmission tells you it is unhappy long before it stops working, and the signals are easy to miss.
The most common is a shudder at light throttle, usually between thirty and forty miles an hour, that feels a little like driving over rumble strips. Then there is a change in how the car pulls away from a stop, a delay before it takes up drive, or acceleration that feels disconnected from the engine. A rising whine that was not there a year ago is another.
None of these mean the transmission has failed. They mean fluid condition, adaptation values or a specific component deserves attention now, while a service is still the answer.
Heat is what shortens a Nissan CVT. Towing, hills, traffic and hot weather all accelerate it, and short trips never let the fluid reach a stable operating temperature.
