A Mercedes-Benz is built to accumulate serious mileage, and plenty do. The ones that get there in good condition are the ones where somebody stayed ahead of cooling, suspension and oil leaks instead of waiting for each to become a failure.
Mercedes-Benz Leaks Start Small
Almost every expensive Mercedes-Benz repair we see started as something small that seeped for two years.
Oil leaks are the clearest example. Valve cover gaskets, filter housings, oil cooler seals and rear main seals all begin as a film rather than a drip. At that stage the repair is straightforward. Left alone, oil reaches belts, alternators, exhaust components and motor mounts, and one gasket becomes four repairs.
Mercedes-Benz coolant follows the same pattern. Plastic components in high-heat locations develop hairline cracks and weep before they fail, and the car gives very little warning between the two states.
Mercedes-Benz suspension is the third. On models with air suspension, leaks announce themselves through a compressor running longer than it used to, or a corner that settles overnight, and a strut left leaking will work the compressor to death.
None of these require unusual skill to catch. They require someone actually looking, with the car on a lift and a camera, at each visit. That is what an inspection here is for.
