Hybrid and electric vehicles need the same tires, brakes, suspension, steering and cabin climate work as anything else. They also have systems that will not tolerate being guessed at.

High voltage propulsion, battery thermal management, regenerative braking, charging hardware and the twelve volt system that quietly runs everything else all interact. A charging complaint, a reduction in regenerative braking, a cooling alert or a range change usually has a specific and testable cause, and diagnosing it requires the right equipment and the right procedures rather than the assumption that a hybrid is a gas car with a battery attached.

Some things about owning a hybrid or EV surprise people, and most of them are not about the high voltage battery.

The twelve volt battery is the single most common cause of a hybrid or EV that will not wake up. It runs the computers that close the high voltage contactors, so when it goes weak, the car acts far more broken than it is.

Tires wear faster because of instant torque and additional weight, and the correct load rating matters more than it does on a comparable gas car. Brakes wear more slowly thanks to regeneration, but that same lack of use lets calipers seize and rotors corrode, so they still need inspection. Cabin heating draws real energy in winter, which is why range drops when it gets cold.
